Community Partnership for Homeless and Sushi Maki Serve up a Fresh Deal

Post Hurricane Season Promotion Underway to Benefit South Florida’s Homeless

MIAMI – October 28, 2009 – Community Partnership for Homeless (CPH) has partnered up with local Asian eatery Sushi Maki to deliver a Post-Hurricane Promotion benefiting CPH and the residents of its homeless shelters.

Starting December 1st, the last day of hurricane season, consumers can trade off their excess canned goods for a fresh selection at Sushi Maki, a community dining favorite with restaurant locations in Coral Gables, South Miami and Palmetto Bay. Customers bringing in a donation of at least two canned items will receive a free California or Spicy Salmon roll courtesy of Sushi Maki. The promotion, scheduled to run throughout the entire month of December with all donated cans going to Community Partnership for Homeless, is valid weekdays after 3 P.M. and offers patrons one free roll per visit.

Community Partnership for Homeless serves 702 men, women and children at its two homeless assistance centers by providing them with guidance, meals and shelter. At these centers, residents work with case managers to eliminate the barriers and obstacles that may have prevented them from keeping their homes and jobs. CPH and the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust work together towards ensuring that no persons have to sleep on the streets of their community.

“The partnership and support from Sushi Maki is much appreciated and helps us create awareness of the homelessness situation in Miami-Dade County,” said Director of Marketing Patty Vila. “We depend on community support to succeed.”

CPH has ended the cycle of homelessness for over half of the 75,000 individuals that have been through its doors since opening. The donations from Sushi Maki customers will be included in care packages for CPH residents getting ready to transition into their new homes after leaving the assistance centers. Typical care packages include food and supplies that will help these persons get back on their feet as quickly as possible.

“We are proud to be working alongside the Community Partnership for Homeless in their battle against homelessness in South Florida,” said Sushi Maki President Abe Ng. “We hope that by giving back to the community in any little way we can, we can make a big difference in the lives of our neighbors.”

CPH also accepts donations of home goods, grooming products, clothing and anything else that could help homeless individuals and families rebuild their lives. When individuals arrive at CPH, they must leave many of their belongings behind.
