Community Partnership for Homeless premieres sneak preview of film, “Resurrecting the Champ”

On Thursday, August 16, 2007, Community Partnership for Homeless, in conjunction with Yari Film Group, was proud to premiere a sneak preview of the film, “Resurrecting the Champ”. Movies at the Falls screened the preview to a packed and enthusiastic audience.

Yari Film Group provided CPH with 300 free tickets for the event, which were in turn distributed to employees of the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust, Lutheran Services of Florida, Citrus Health, Neighbors 4 Neighbors, Miami-Dade Police, Fun4Kidz, Kids4Kids, Outreach, and others.

The film, which stars Josh Hartnett and Samuel L. Jackson, is the true story of an up-and-coming sports reporter who rescues a homeless man only to discover that he is, in fact, a boxing legend believed to have passed away. What begins as an opportunity to resurrect the Champ's story and escape the shadow of his father's success becomes a personal journey as the ambitious reporter re-examines his own life and his relationship with his family.

The movie’s subject matter was especially poignant for those in attendance, many of whom work tirelessly to bring awareness to the issue of homelessness in Miami-Dade. “The story of the Champ really hit home for everyone here”, said Cynthia Eisaman, Director of Development for CPH, “Our Centers have encountered many similar, real-life scenarios over the years.”

CPH would like to thank Yari Film Group for providing the free tickets. Through their generosity, local organizations like CPH and the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust, became the first people in South Florida to see “Resurrecting the Champ” and were able to experience the life-changing power of the film’s message firsthand.

“Resurrecting the Champ” opened nationwide on Friday, August 24th.
