Community Partnership for Homeless Celebrates the Successful Launch of the Mobile Dental Unit

Spanish novelist Miguel de Cervantes once said, “Every tooth in a man's head is more valuable than a diamond. “ Now, thanks to Community Partnership for Homeless’ new state-of-the-art mobile Dental Unit, thousands of people a year will be able to experience exactly what Miguel meant.

Since the launch of Community Partnership for Homeless’ mobile Dental Unit in early December 2005, the unit has seen an average of six to sixteen people a day.

“We are very thankful to North Dade Medical Foundation and the private donors who helped fund this cutting edge facility. We are able to fill a large need in our community by taking these dental services to our residents.” said Dan Vincent, Executive Director

Stationed at the Chapman Center three days a week, and the South Dade Center two days a week, the new $350,000 Dental Unit is expected to serve approximately 3,600 homeless residents of CPH per year.

The truck is far from ordinary. From the outside, the dental unit looks like an oversized truck, but on the inside, it holds two full-functioning dental laboratories.

The unit provides free dental treatment to all of CPH’s residents and offers cleanings, fillings and extraction services to all residents free of charge.

Overseeing the Dental Unit is dentist Laurence Margolis, along with his assistants Anita Salazar and Jessica Horne. Now tagged the “Roadside Dentist,” Dr. Margolis goes above and beyond, also providing other intensive services.

“Thanks to CPH, thousands of people in need will finally have the ability to visit a dentist, something that many people take for granted,” Margolis said
